Hazards are Real
People say about themselves, or we generally assume about people in general, that people have lived their whole lives consuming things claimed to be harmful, yet they've lived long and heathly lives, so the risk must be overstated. But that is absolutely false. While someone who says that is alive and appears healthy, that is simply not the case for many, many others, many of whom are long dead, and as such their testimony of having been killed by the hazards is silent, out of sight and out of mind. Look around you, and realize that every empty space you see is a testimony to the fact that someone who otherwise would be walking around in that space is not present because they are incapacitated, or dead. So our perception of a population of healthy people is skewed by ignoring the fact that we are a population of survivors, but it's the many, many, many non-survivors who are PROOF of the hazards, and the only reason we have survived and they didn't, while all following the same risky habits, is blind luck. Then, those who claim they are not subject to hazards often eventually are later victimized by those hazards, and as a result, drop out of sight, perpetuating the illusion of a healthy, risk-free population.
